What you need to know about deep cleaning

image
Have you ever met a dentist to brush your teeth regularly to get a much more expensive basic cleaning fee? Although this type of cleaning does not seem necessary, there is a good reason for your dentist to recommend thorough cleaning with regular brushing.

What is deep cleaning?
Deep cleaning (also called scaling and root planing) is a two-part procedure in which 1) plaque and tartar is removed from the surface of the tooth and between gums and teeth and 2) plaque and tartar is removed with a scaling device from the tooth root surface.

When is thorough cleaning needed?
Thorough cleaning is necessary if someone has periodontal disease or gums. Symptoms of periodontitis or gum disease include:
          bleeding gums
          halitosis
          Swollen or red gums
Concave gum that exposes more of your teeth

How does deep cleaning work?

In contrast to normal teeth cleaning, deep cleaning is done according to the mouth or quadrant:
         Top left
          Top right
          Bottom left
          Bottom right

Because the mouth is divided into sections to carry out the procedure, the procedure is usually carried out at least two sessions. After a thorough cleaning, periodontal treatment will often replace normal tooth cleaning at the next visit. Periodontal treatment not only cares about the surface of the teeth, but also for the roots of the teeth, gums and bones.
